Project Genesis and Amethyst Homes are preparing new plans for development at Regents Park, Consett.

 

The new development proposal includes the delivery of 71 high-quality homes, including a 10% provision of affordable housing, associated access, landscaping and improved open space.

 

We are keen to hear your views on our new proposal and invite you to complete a short questionnaire on the ‘Have Your Say’ tab. Please explore this consultation platform to learn more about the new development and submit your feedback by: 10th April 2026.

 

We will consider all questionnaire responses prior to finalising and submitting a formal planning application to Durham County Council in April 2026.

Who are Project Genesis and Amethyst Homes?

Project Genesis

The Project Genesis Trust was formed in 1994 as a registered charity to regenerate the site of the former Consett Steelworks and reinvest the funds from the development in the provision of environmental, recreational and social benefits to local people. The overall vision of Project Genesis is to achieve the comprehensive redevelopment of the former steelworks site including the wider regeneration of Consett Town Centre.

 

Since its formation, Project Genesis has facilitated over £200m of investment in the former steelworks site which has been totally transformed. Land has been redevelopment for commercial, industrial, residential and amenity uses in accordance with a comprehensive masterplan, which is acknowledged in the County Durham Plan. The application site forms part of the former steelworks site, with Project Genesis keen to deliver continued regeneration and much needed new homes within Consett.

Amethyst Homes have a record of delivering well-designed housing across the North East, contributing to the housing needs of communities. Our work includes housing development at Regents Park within Consett, to which this site seeks to complete.
